Freebie Friday (Tuesday..!) – Mothers Day

Freebie Friday has transferred to a Tuesday this month! I thought it might be a little late to do one for Mothers Day 2 days before the actual day, so I have done it a few days early this time.

MTGD-MOTHERS-DAY-2017-2 copy

For the download this month I have hand lettered an A6 size card (or a postcard size print if you chop it in half!) with a watercolour background. The design features 2 verses from Proverbs 31 which are a real encouragement to all our wonderful Mummas!

To help it look its best, I recommend printing it on a nice white card & use the little crop/fold marks as a guide to show you where to cut (or fold!)

Save it by clicking on the image below & downloading it to your computer. We’d love to see some snaps of it if you give it to your Mum so please do tag us in them!

Freebie Friday – Love You More

Freebie Friday… it’s been a while! [A whole year infact – oops!] Last year was extra busy for me [what with planning my wedding & shifting my whole life from Luton to Liverpool] but hopefully there will be more freebie treats for you this year with things slightly more chilled!

MTGD - LYM

To start the freebies off this year I have designed a Valentines postcard for you to download and print. The hand brush lettered text reads Love You More – a phrase which is often said amongst my family [I say I always win!] The verse I added to the design is 1 Corinthians 16:14 “Let all you do be done in love.” It is such a simple yet challenging verse for how we should live out our daily lives!

There are 2 versions for you, for those who love something pretty & sparkly there is a pink & gold background version and then a monochrome version for those who like something a bit simpler.

Hopefully you’ll agree that it is a card that can serve lots of purposes – you could use it as a card to give to your other half, a family member, a BFF… or even just to pop on your own wall!

We recommend printing it on a nice white card to help it look its best.

Save it by clicking on the image below & downloading it to your computer.

Freebie Friday – Valentines Card

For Freebie Friday this month there’s a Valentines hand lettered postcard for you to download & print. The verse chosen is 1 Corinthians 13:13 as it is one of my favourite verses about love. Hopefully you’ll agree that it is a card that can serve lots of purposes – you could use it as a card to give to your other half, a family member, a friend… or even for yourself to stick on your wall!

We recommend printing it on a nice white card to help it look its best.

Save it by clicking on the image below & downloading it to your computer.

Freebie Friday – Wallpaper

It’s time for another Freebie Friday. Yay! This time round we have a hand lettered wallpaper for you to download for your phone/tablet/laptop/desktop etc – whatever you use!

The verse used for the wallpaper is taken from the last half of Psalm 39:7 which says “My hope is in You.” I love this verse as I think it is a great reminder of how good God is to us & how we look to him to seek our happiness.

To download the wallpaper all you need to do is…
• click on either the landscape or portrait images below, depending on what suits the layout of your screen, save it & then set it as your wallpaper

The Edna May collection

It’s now been a week since our first collection was launched! Eeek! All in all it has been a very busy few months of designing (and lots of redesigning – the downside to being a perfectionist!) along with all the extra jobs that go with setting up a new business (of which I am very grateful to the lovely Anna for all her help in assisting in this area), but it is a wonderful, and very surreal, feeling to see products that you have designed not only packed up in envelopes to be posted to online customers, but also in actual shop card stands!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetFor the past few years I have felt called to use my creativity as a way of sharing what the Bible says and after setting up my first range of secular greetings cards and gifts back in 2013 under the name Betty Charlie (a lifelong nickname from my Uncle Pete), I thought that maybe this could be a way to share it. In Spring 2015 I thought more seriously about my brand identity and how it could actually work. I love all things gold and knew I wanted to incorporate this into my designs and when I was thinking about the brand name and read the verse 1 Peter 1:7 which talks about your faith being worth more than gold, it all just fitted into place. My designs are usually inspired by passed down family treasures and found vintage objects. The first collection is named the Edna May Collection after my Nanny as the floral designs and the colour palette were inspired by some of her silk scarves I have that she used to wear.

I can’t wait to see what God has got in store for the next few months for More Than Gold Designs and I would like to say a special thanks to all our lovely stockists and customers so far.

The first collection launches!

More Than Gold’s very first cards, the Edna May collection, has launched this week in Dunstable’s Christian Bookshop and Life Church, Bradford. I’m so excited to see the physical products, after imagining them for so long. And actually, it’s equal parts excitement and terror!Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

I suppose, in starting out, it makes sense to explain where More Than Gold has come from. For what feels like a long time, I’ve wanted to do something more creative than my everyday job. I’m grateful to have work to do, but I think I’ve always been a creative person and I probably need an outlet for that. My family can vouch for the fact that I’ve been talking about starting a blog for AGES but just couldn’t think of a name for it. My other problem was that I could visualise things…I follow hundreds of people on instagram (the most brilliant of all social media, am I right?!) that do hand-lettering, design beautiful homes or take amazing photos…but could never quite reproduce what was in my head. The thing that most inspired me was seeing beautiful, hand-lettered prints and cards with words from the Bible, but so few of them were in the UK. I can’t tell you the amount of times I added prints to my basket online but couldn’t justify the shipping costs! I just couldn’t understand why there was nothing like that for Christian women in the UK (because let’s be honest, men aren’t a greetings card suppliers dream client!).

So when I went on maternity leave and started to think more about work-life balance, as well as craving even more that creative outlet that you sometimes so desperately need as a new mum, I had a off-the-cuff chat with Beth. I knew Beth did her own designs (brilliant ones!) under the name Betty Charlie but I didn’t know that she had been thinking almost exactly the same thing about Christian cards and prints. Of course, she has the design skills to make it possible but wanted some business support. It sounded both too good to be true and terrifying. What if I actually had to just go for something, instead of dreaming about it? After lots of chats, More Than Gold Designs started to become a real possibility and we took the leap in the summer of 2015.

Of course, it is still early days but we’re really grateful for our first stockists and hope that you like the designs so far. There’s lots more to come and we’ll be making improvements the whole way, including different payment methods on this website. If you have any questions, ask away! Or if there are improvements you think we can make, let us know…

Anna
